Public Entity & Education

We emphasize the defense of public entities and their employees in all areas of litigation, from personal injury suits to complex discrimination cases and constitutional challenges to regulations. We specialize in education law, representing The Regents of the University of California, as well as numerous community colleges and K-12 school districts both as litigators and as general counsel. In addition, we have represented district attorneys and their investigators, sheriffs and their deputies, special districts and joint powers authorities.  We also handle labor disputes, and negotiations for such entities, as well as defending them in matters before the Public Employees Relations Board (PERB).

Our attorneys have represented public entities for more than two decades in the defense of dismissals, discipline, investigations, hearings, policies and regulations, personnel, student issues, police conduct, writs of mandate, Education Code challenges, premises liability, property issues, labor negotiations, PERB representation, insurance coverage, Brown Act challenges, and varied claims, including wrongful termination, discrimination, sexual harassment, disabilities, handicap access, invasion of privacy, and defamation.

As general counsel, we provide assistance in all matters to governing boards, administrators, and risk managers. We strive to prevent problems before they arise.
